The FBLA, Future Business Leaders of America, club went to a State
Leadership Conference, April 1-3. The conference was held at the Holiday
Inn at 72nd and Grover. FBLA chapters from all over Nebraska came to
Omaha to participate in this conference.
Altogether, there were more than 1,800 students there.
Marianšs FBLA club moderator, Mrs. Cheryl OšNeill said, ŗBecause at Marian we
do not offer a true business curriculum, it gives our students the opportunity
to get a taste of what is available to them, as a career, in the business
world.˛
At the conference, the chapters from each school participated in
electing new state officers. Each chapter gets a certain amount of voting
delegates. Motivational speakers came to the General Sessions and spoke
on leadership and high achievements. There were also tests that the
participants could take over business related topics, such as Business
Calculations. If you do well on these tests, you are eligible to compete
nationally. Mrs. OšNeill said, ŗThe reason for the State Leadership
Conference is to select students from across Nebraska to go on to national
competition.
